20 Insights About Endeavors That Have Less Than 21 Employees by USBA.us

This web site, www.USBA.us, exists to draw attention to the reality that employing entities that have fewer than 21 employees have a substantially different dynamic for development and growth, as well as job creation, than those entities that are still called "small", but are larger than this critical transition head count level from direct leadership by the owner, founder or champion of the for-profit or non-profit endeavor.

Feel free to take the time to grasp the concepts described on this web site, then become another independent direct voice to foster understanding of this issue at the Federal, state, and local levels of government and economic development.

EDITORIAL by Ultra-Small Business Alliance, USBA.us published March 2020, John C. Randall
STIMULUS LEGISLATION 2020 - 2021

The feeder roots of the economy are those endeavors that have less than 20 employees -- many serve in the local community, some supply the larger small businesses (by definition, the Federal standards for being called a small business includes some that have up to 500 employees; see other pages on this web site for more insights).

The USBA exists to educate those who really care about the strength of the nation about the reality that ultra-small endeavors, typically still led by the founder, are different in many ways from the broader group of endeavors called small business.

Sadly, the ultra-small endeavor sector (less than 20 employees, and many are home-based) does not have strong advocates in Washington DC to lobby Congress, and indeed, cannot afford such a luxury.  All we can ask for is you - if you have read this far, to spend time on this web site, and then call attention to it using whatever means you have at your fingertips (frankly, I cannot afford the time and a smart phone and the service fees it can incur, so this web site is a little off the beaten path).

So, if you can, let the President of the United States, Congress, your local Representatives and Senators know about it, and pray that they take the time to think about and comprehend the contents.  The generic term, "Main Street", includes many ultra-small endeavors, but the key is the human resources that are drawn together by an individual who is called the "founder-owner-operator" and leads the daily operation of the endeavor.

The harsh reality, however, is that most often the "owner" is actually owned by the endeavor.  The owner is typically the last one to get paid, if at all, during the formative years.  They bridge with funds from anywhere they can get them (second mortgage, credit cards, vendor credit, friends, family, begging, and more).   The entrepreneurial sprint frequently ends with the founder falling short of the time when the bottom line turns from red (loss) to black (profitable).  Their credit, spirit and household is frequently crushed by the experience.

The thrust of the formal education system is to educate most only up to the level that they will be fairly good employees rather than founders - those that want to be founders have to pursue the education from whatever resources they can get, plus the school of hard knocks.  Trust me, I know.

Even the best business schools fall far short of truly understanding the situation - it is hard to see the real roots of endeavorship unless you have personally been there (and being only 82 years old, I have).  Ask any policy and law maker (and rule makers too) if they have ever started an endeavor from scratch!

Enough from me - linger and learn, pray, and if you truly care, help your local ultra-small endeavors survive the disaster that is upon the globe.

Know that one out of every 25 houses that you pass as you drive down the road is the operating base for an ultra-small endeavor, and this includes the most of the local churches that you see.  So pray for them too, and may God Bless You!

CAN YOU GET THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES TO READ THIS AND A SPECIAL WEB PAGE JUST FOR HIM (click his job title in the line above to see for yourself the message) - BEFORE HE IS PERMANENTLY TRAPPED IN THE UNIQUE MINDSET OF THE MASS AND SOCIAL MEDIA AND THE FEDERAL BUBBLE?

Ultra-small endeavors by individuals serving others are the feeder roots of any freedom loving economy and culture.  These roots are even stronger when based on the ethics, values, bravery, wisdom and vision reflected in the Declaration of Independence - the roots of the United States Constitution.

The ultra-small endeavor sector of the United States of America is the foundational seed from which the feeder roots of our economy get started and grow.  It is the blood, sweat and tears of individuals that nourishes these hopeful roots -- and some endeavors outgrow the immediate span of control and resources of the founder.  The transition to becoming what is generically called "small business" by the SBA is littered with failures by owners - and government - to recognize the differences in their development.

The USBA is intended to shed light on this subject.  Please take the hour or so to  read and reflect on the thoughts and insights on this web site -- and may you be graced with the ultimate wisdom of our creator.

                                                                                      John

P.S. "Endeavors" include for-profit and not-for-profit entities.  Most are led by individuals who do not have any time to waste posting on Social Media, so this web site is a small voice for them  Please read on for more insights....

What part of human reality is not understood?
"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom.  What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.  The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.  When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that, my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.  You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."
Dr. Adrian Rogers (in 1984; www.LWF.org)
So, where do you think the United States is now in this process?

PERSPECTIVE FOR THOUGHTFUL REFLECTION:

The United States now has about 115,000,000 households, and a population that totals about 317,000,000 including about 75,000,000 children.

Consider this news abstracted and summarized from a report by Terence P. Jeffrey, published by CNSNews.com on October 24, 2013:

"Americans who were recipients of means-tested government benefits in 2011 outnumbered year-round full-time workers, according to data released this month by the Census Bureau."

The 108,592,000 people who were beneficiaries of means-tested government programs in the United States in 2011 outnumbered the 101,716,000 full-time year-round workers.

"That means there were about 1.07 people getting some form of means-tested government benefit for every 1 person working full-time year round."

When the people who received non-means-tested government benefits (such as Social Security and Medicare) are added to those who received means-tested government programs in 2011, the total climbs to 151,014,000.

Look at the numbers AGAIN,  then ask yourself, "Is this sustainable?"  Consider the observations by Dr. Adrian Rogers once more:  What do you think?

Is America still a country of second chances, or is it too late?
  • Do we need to "create jobs" or "create new employers"?
  •     Can you really create new employers?
  • Do conditions exist that make taking the personal risk of starting a local small business worthwhile?
  •     How many of the law makers and rules enforcers have the personal experience of starting and operating a business?
  • How many inside the "governing bubble" would risk their house and family assets to "create jobs"?
  •     How many individuals are left that are willing to take the risk to build a local business based on value-added to their own labor and materials when they see their income taxed and used to influence votes for those in power instead on the infrastructure and defense of freedom?
  • Do you see signs that the bubble is about to pop?
  •      Have you asked your lawmaker how many tax dollars they collected and spent for each job the government claims it has "created", and how many of those are really productive jobs instead of just more desk jobs created by laws and rules that make busy work but produce nothing?
  • Are you still part of the "silent majority" while the vocal minority dominates the popular and social media?  Why not seek the real Truth?

WHAT IS THE U.S.B.A. DEFINITION OF A QUALIFIED ULTRA-SMALL BUSINESS?

In real simple terms, for the Ultra-Small Business Alliance in the United States, www.USBA.us, the definition for qualification is that:

o   The founder/leader is still the sole owner and in full control of the entity.
o   The entity has less than 21 employees (see reasons why below).
o   The founding owner still works full-time leading the entity.
o   The services or products are legal, ethical, and good.
o   The entity is located inside the United States of America.

(Note that most ultra-small not-for-profits and non-profit entities, including most local churches, have many operational and cash flow issues in common with the ultra-small business sector.  Those that have 501(c)(3) status are severely limited in the freedom of their voice when it comes to many issues on this web site.  So think about your religious leaders and charitable organization Executive Directors as you reflect on these matters -- and the good, bad, and ugly impacts on them as they are kept silent by the risk of loss of their annual property tax exemptions, etc).

WOULD YOU LIKE A MORE COMPREHENSIVE ANSWER?

Simply click here or on menu, Ultra-Small Business?  You might wish to grab a good cup of coffee or tea first!  In a hurry?  Just read the next several paragraphs, OK?

Small business as seen from inside the Federal Bubble is not really very small.  That is why the Ultra-Small Business Alliance was formed.  If you wish to see the definition of "small business" according to the Federal Government, click here or go to "What is Small Business?" on menu of this web site (in some cases, a company with up to 500 employees is called "small" by those inside the DC beltway, while most local economic development people would give their eye teeth for one that big to come into their county).

My first message, published by the Richmond Virginia Times Dispatch on February 15, 2009, predated the now famous rant by Rick Santelli on February 19, 2009.  Ignored at the time, the truth in my message still persists.

It is now more than several years later.  Why not help your family and the United States by contacting your local, state and Federal leaders and encourage them to consider the way enterprise develops.  Ask them to free the ultra-small business community, both for profit and not for profit, from the time wasting and money draining burdens of taxation and regulation so that they can do what they do best: focus their energy and resources on enterprise development, which in turn creates jobs and capable consumers.

If the governments want to do something positive, why not also ask them to re-direct educational funds towards development of individual skills in personal and household management and growth of net worth?  For example, how to identify and solve problems using the brain, starting with strong skills in verbal communications, reading, writing, math and sciences leading to critical thinking, innovation, integrity and pragmatic strategies for living life.

Finally, our country was built by individuals, many of them seeking a second chance.  The massive data bases, for example, credit scores, being developed on each individual are eliminating that key dynamic associated with risk-taking to launch an enterprise.  The responsive forces just might be the growth of a cash-based economy that is under the governmental radar.  For example, how can approximately 10% of the population that cannot legally open a bank account or legally vote still manage to survive anyway?  You know the answer.  Ask yourself, is this a good thing for our country?

Do YOU want to do something about this situation, or just sit back and see what happens?
o    Are you interested in becoming part of the grass-roots alliance of ultra-small business owners?
o    Has the potential voting bloc power of the ultra-small business sector and its employees been recognized yet?

IS THIS A BIG VOTING BLOC THAT HAS YET TO ROAR?

>   About 3,000,000 ultra-small companies employ about 20,000,000 people.
>   The United States has about 115,000,000 households.
>   Back-of-the-envelope math:
an ultra-small business owner or employee lives in about 16% of the households in the United States.

Questions:
o   Are we just too busy working day, night and weekends to pause and reflect on what we, as a group, really mean to the country?
o   Are we really getting fair and equitable consideration for the role we play in the economy?
o   Is it time that maybe, just maybe, all of us strong-minded, independent thinking, believers in the free-enterprise system, need to find our voice?
o   Has the time come for the whispers in the wind to seek a voice that gets a respectful ear?
